Michael Agyekum Addo, the founder of KAMA Group of Companies, has passed away at the age of 74. Reports indicate he died on Friday, 1 November.

Addo was a distinguished entrepreneur known for his significant contributions to Ghana‘s pharmaceutical industry. In 1983, he began by operating a pharmaceutical shop in Kumasi, and by 1986, he was manufacturing medical products from his garage, leading to the creation of the KAMA Group of Companies. This conglomerate includes numerous wholesale and retail outlets across Ghana and once operated a pharmaceutical production company that has since been divested.

Beyond pharmaceuticals, Addo ventured into various industries, managing a microfinance firm, a real estate business, and a multi-purpose conference center. He was also dedicated to education, establishing the Kama Education Project, which trains teachers to inspire entrepreneurial skills in students from an early age. Additionally, he authored several books aimed at promoting a “can-do” spirit in the younger generation.

In recognition of his achievements, Addo was awarded an honorary doctorate by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2005. In 2022, he was among 88 PhD candidates who graduated from the University of Ghana. He also held the traditional title of Nkabomhene in the New Juaben Traditional Area in Koforidua, Eastern Region.

Addo’s passing marks the end of an illustrious career as an entrepreneur, educator, and leader in Ghana.
