Bhanumathi Ramakrishna is a versatile film personality. She has worked in different languages and has donned the role of an actress, producer, director, singer, songs writer and book writer. She has involved herself mostly in Tamil and Telugu languages. She received the prestigious Padma Bhushan during the year 2003.
Born on 7th September 1925 in Doddavaram village she was familiar with acting since her childhood since her father worked in several stage shows. She got trained from her father, who had a passion for classical music, in music at her early years. Bhanumathi debuted in the film industry during the year 1935 and went to work in over 200 flicks in Tamil and Telugu. She was revered as Ashtavadhani due to her versatility. She also had a stint with editing and studio management. Bhanumathi is well-versed in philosophy and astrology.
Bhanumathi was such a sportive person that concerns like rat biting her nails during a shooting didn’t affect her. Bhanumathi is brilliant in both Hindustani and Carnatic music. In fact, she sang in her own voice for her films. At later stages of her career, Bhanumathi worked in several organizations that were connected to movies. Bhanumathi has also received an award from the Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Academy for her literary prowess.
Bhanumathi was very much involved in social working. She involved herself in noble causes including giving the needy free education. Bhanumathi, along with her husband, P S Ramakrishna Rao, founded Bharani Pictures, a renowned production venture. She has various awards to her credit. She breathed her last at the ripe old age of 80.
